White Room

Chantel Matthews is a contemporary artist. Her practice explores her own subjectivity as a woman, mother, artist and wahine Māori that traverses between installation, performance and sculpture.

With a particular interest in how women/wāhine hold space, her art practice conceptually explores whanaungatanga (working together/relationship through shared experiences) and manaakitanga (supporting others) through kai kōrero, wānanga and collaboration.

As well as a practicing artist, Chantel is a Mother, Curator, Writer and Editor of HĀ TUA Magazine Aotearoa.

Chantel currently works and resides in Tamaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, New Zealand (Ngāti Hounuku, Ngāti Tahinga, Ngāti Ikaunahi, Tainui) Middlesex, England.
